DEVELOPMENTAL PATH
Have fun in your Ballet/ Tap class! Try adding a Hip Hop or Gymnastics class but make sure you keep taking Ballet/ Tap to maintain your strong dance foundation!
ADVANCED PATH
Have fun in your Ballet/ Tap and Hip Hop class or Gymnastics and work on your love of dance!
I am 5 years old:
EDUCATIONAL PATH
Have fun in your Ballet/ Tap, Hip Hop or Gymnastics class! If you are undecided between the tree, we recommend Ballet/ Tap because it gives young dancers a stronger base for later classes!
DEVELOPMENTAL PATH
Taking two Ballet/ Tap classes each week is the best thing you can do right now. Taking one Ballet/ Tap and one Hip Hop is also a great option, but make sure you do not drop that Ballet/ Tap! The ballet learned in these classes will have great payoffs in years to come!
ADVANCED PATH
Taking two Ballet/ Tap classes and Gymnastics will start to build a great technical foundation!
I am 6-8 years old:
EDUCATIONAL PATH
So many choices! Do you love Hip Hop? Take Hip Hop! You want to learn Tap? There's a class for you! We also offer contemporary and gymnastics! Have fun with whatever class you're in but remember that always taking an additional Ballet or Jazz class with any other class you're taking will help you a lot! Ballet and Jazz build a technical foundation that helps with all other style of dance.
DEVELOPMENTAL PATH
Where to start depends a lot on what style of dance you're most interested in. Do you want to dance Ballet? Start taking at least two Ballet classes each week or a ballet and gymnastics class to help with flexibility and strength. Is Jazz or Contemporary your style? Supplementing your Jazz and Contemporary classes with at least one Ballet class is vital if you want to progress inn Jazz. Or maybe you're into Tap or Hip Hop? Ballet will help with those too! Jazz is a good additional technical alternative if you do not want to take Ballet but both will help you develop the flexibility, strength and body control all dancers need.
ADVANCED PATH
Take three to four classes each week. If you're focusing on Ballet, take at least two Ballet classes and Gymnastics for strengthening and flexibility. If you're focusing on Jazz, take four core classes: two Ballet classes, one Jazz class, and one Gymnastics class. Hip Hop, Tap and Contemporary are also fun additions to your schedule and they are great for building rhythm, musicality and confidence. The reason we recommend Ballet and Jazz for dancers who want to be technically trained is that these styles do more to build flexibility, strength, body control and other skills that are important to all styles of dance.
I am 9 years old- teen:
EDUCATIONAL PATH
Taking one class a week in any style is a great way to build confidence and grow more comfortable in your own body. If you take more than one class a week or a technical class like Contemporary, think about making one of those classes a Ballet class (or maybe a Jazz class). Classes like Ballet and Jazz will help dancers develop skills like turns and kicks that will help in other styles like Hip Hop and Tap too! As we get into the higher-level classes at the studio we may require a Ballet class to participate in certain classes.
DEVELOPMENTAL PATH
For ballet dancers, taking three Ballet classes a week is very important to getting better and eventually going on Pointe. Ballet is also an important part of learning Jazz and Contemporary at a higher level, so jazz dancers should take two Ballet classes and at least one Jazz class each week. You'll also get a solid technical foundation that transitions into things like high school dance teams and supports other activities like sports! If your main interest is Hip Hop or Tap, adding one or two Ballet or Jazz classes is important if you want to add some technical dance foundation to your training. Gymnastics is an excellent way to improve strength and flexibility for all styles of dance!
ADVANCED PATH
Take four core classes each week. For a ballet focus, this means taking four Ballet classes and one other dance or gymnastics class. For Jazz, you should still be taking at least two Ballet classes, one Jazz class and one other dance or gymnastics class. If you want more work on your technique, private lessons or additional classes (in Ballet or Jazz) are the way to go.
Note to our most advanced students:
Most of our elite students are in 6-12 hours of classes each week depending on which style they are focusing on. If you spend at least a year taking four core classes and you want to do more, please let the front desk know so our curriculum directors will get back to you with a customized training plan.
